Unraveling the Mystery of the Octopus House in Bandung
The Octopus House is one of the famous urban legend icons in Bandung City. The architecture and decoration in the form of a giant octopus on the roof of the four-story house have indeed made residents who pass by wonder, and many even associate the house with a place of devil worship rituals.
But is the rumor true?
Front view, the Octopus House is located behind house number 6 in the Sukadamai housing complex. It is said that the numbering is also often associated with the devil’s number, namely triple six or 666.
Meanwhile, the Octopus House is behind house number 6 or a separate building. What is visible from the front is only an octopus with two glass holes like eyes that decorate the head or body of the giant octopus statue.
However, the entrance to the Octopus House is not the only one, just through house number 6. There is another door, a tall white gate facing Jalan Cipedes. This door is located on the eastern side of the Octopus House.
Detikcom also tried to observe, from the perspective of the west side. Seen from the third floor of the building, there are large glass windows with pictures of a bearded and long-haired man, cavalry troops and a number of portraits of curly-haired men and one portrait of a grinning face. There are a number of other portraits of faces, but they are not clearly visible.
“This building is owned by a businessman named Mr. Frans. I know him well and we often keep in touch. This house is only a transit house, because the owner is in Jakarta,” said Oong when met.
He clarified the news that a number of people were praying in front of Rumah Gurita. As far as he knows, during his time living there, there has never been such an incident. “That’s a lie, I’ve lived here since 1986. In fact, there has never been anything like that,” he said.
According to him, on the first and second floors of the Octopus House there are only empty rooms with a number of statues. As is known, Frans, the owner of the house, loves art. “So there are statues in his house,” he said.
Then on the top floor where the giant octopus perches, there is a garden designed in an Indian style. The octopus tentacles are also one of the decorations of the garden. While on the lower west side of the house there is a swimming pool.
“Why is the building spacious too, because Mr. Frans said to make a fitness facility. But that wish has not come true until now,” he said.
Currently, said Oong, the house is not completely empty. There is Frans’ older brother who takes care of the house. “Mr. Frans is now in Jakarta, he has started to come here less often. It is said that his condition is currently sick,” he concluded
